10 Things to do when you go to London: Tourist, Places to Eat, Must See Places

Going to London can definitely feel overwhelming if you don’t know the right places to visit. If your travelling into London or live in the UK and likes being a tourist in their own country like myself, I’m going to be giving you all the background information you need for visiting the beautiful London. Even though I’ve lived in the UK all my life, I hadn’t visited London till early 2018 so I’m definitely new to the ways of London but I’ve re-visited a few times as it never gets old!

If you are only staying in London for a day trip or if you are staying for longer, I have thought of 10 different things to do when you visit London! This is something I really wish I’d read before visiting London for the first time as I’d know the ins and outs beforehand.

  1. The British Museum

Address: Great Russell St, Bloomsbury, London WC1B 3DG

If your interested in the history from all over the world, I’d 100% recommend visiting the British museum on your travels to London. I visited here on my 4th trip and I didn’t understand why I hadn’t visited sooner. I have a huge interest in Asian culture especially Chinese and Japanese so wondering through these exhibits taught me so much about the history and gave me a wider understanding of the culture. If you want to know more about this museum before visiting or you want to know more about the different exhibits, the site to visit is linked here. Also, this museum is FREE admission but you can make a donation to the museum!

2. Sky Garden

Address: 20 Fenchurch St, London EC3M 8AF

If there is something you 1485858% do when you go to London, go to the Sky Garden. The sky garden is free for everyone but you do need to book a time slot online just to make sure you are able to enter. You can head to the website to book a time slot before you actually go to London and you are able to pick a time which makes it so much easier to not miss this off your list! If you don’t want to spend loads on the London Eye to see a view of London, i’d definitely go to the sky garden as I feel this will give you the best view of London, I could have looked out the window for hours on end if I could!

3. Tower Bridge

Address: Tower Bridge Rd, London SE1 2UP

Processed with VSCO with m5 preset

A definite tourist destination in London is Tower bridge. This is such a beautiful walk and if the weather is lovely, this would definitely make an amazing experience if your walking along the River Thames. London bridge actually has a museum if you want to visit that while your there! It isn’t free but if you want more information about the prices and what’s there, the website is here.

4. Notting Hill

Address: London W11 2PA

If you want to visit the most beautiful streets in the UK, Notting Hill is my number one recommendation. If you are a fan of the film, you definitely must visit the book shop in which the film was filmed! In Notting Hill they also have some beautiful places to grab a bite to eat. Something I’d recommend while your in Notting Hill is hiring a bike. If you didn’t know, Santander have their own bike hire in London where you can hire a bike for 24 hours all around London for only £2 which is a bargain if you ask me, it’s definitely beautiful going for a ride around the streets of Notting Hill.

5. Buckingham Palace

Address: Westminster, London SW1A 1AA

This is probably the number one tourist destination you need to go to in London. This is such a beautiful walk down and if it’s warm, you could even have a picnic in Hyde park or you could also get a bike ride around the park also.

6. Big Ben and the London Eye

Address: Lambeth, London SE1 7PB

There is so much to do when you are near the London eye as there is the Aquarium, the Shrek amusement and Madame Tussauds which are really fun! You can also take a ride on the London Eye which would definitely be an experience. One thing I would recommend though before visiting London and you want to go on the London Eye, book in advance, this would make it so much easier and faster, you can simple do this on their website.

7. Piccadilly Circus

Address: W1J 9HS

If you want to see a complete different side to London I’d 100% recommend going to Trafalgar square. It is beautiful both during the day and in the evening. It definitely gives you the feel of going to New York or Tokyo just on a smaller scale. Around Trafalgar square their are some really nice restaurants where you can stop and have a bite to eat.

8. Oxford Street

Address: Oxford Street, London, W1D 1BS.

If your a lover of shopping like myself and you have some time to spare, I’d 100% recommend going to Oxford St. Here they have over 300 stores which would be perfect if you want to go in a shopping spree. Alternatively, if you want to do some shopping but want it to be quieter, I’d recommend going to Westfield London which is also really good for shopping and they have so many restaurants where you can chill out for a while and have some great food!

9. Trafalgar Square

Address: Trafalgar Square, London WC2N 5DN

Processed with VSCO with m5 preset

Trafalgar square is such a beautiful place if you just want to have a sit down and just chill for a while. Around Trafalgar square there is always something going on and theres also the National Art Gallary that you can visit. I’ve been in this Art Gallary before and I’d recommend visiting if your a lover of art like myself! Around Trafalgar square there is always someone doing street art which is always really beautiful to watch!

10. Chinatown, London

Address: Chinatown, London 伦敦唐人街

If your someone of culture or like learning more about different cultures all around the world, I’d recommend visiting Chinatown London. There are so many restaurants and independent shops which sell a lot of produce that they sell in China. You definitely feel like your at the heart of China when your in Chinatown and I love how this is celebrated in London!

That is the end of my recommendations but definitely don’t restrict yourself to these 10 places. There is so much to explore in London but I really hope this post helped to see the top places to see while your visiting!

Thank you,

  1. I’m heading back to London again in a week. I lived there a couple of years ago, and I can’t wait to go back and be a tourist and visit all my favourite spots. I never got to sky garden, so I’m definitely going to go there! I’ve also got my favourite coffee place where I’m owed a free coffee (hopefully they accept my 2 year old coffee card 😂). I’m adding this post to my favourites and will go back to it when I’m there so I don’t forget anything.
