How I Stay Motivated with Blogging|Why I Ditched Caring about Likes and Getting Past Rejection from Brands etc.

Something I get asked from friends and family quite regularly is how I stay motivated when it comes to blogging. Sometimes it can be quite difficult to stay motivated when being rejected by brands and not getting the traffic I should.

Something that has been floating around Instagram recently is individuals being disappointed when they don’t get as much traffic for a post that they would have liked, I also fall into this category of people. I do admit it can be quite frustrating when you put all this hard work into taking a really good flatlay or spending the evening editing for it to get 50 likes when you have nearly 2K followers. I’ve heard that Instagram have changed their algorithm AGAIN so that Instagram is messing up a lot, why can’t they just leave it alone? Something I wouldn’t let this do is get me down or stop me from producing content, because I love doing it!

How I stay motivated with Instagram:

Instagram is such a hit or miss app, it has definitely changed dramatically since I first downloaded it. There are so many different Influencers on Instagram, those with above 10K followers so it can be hard to not feel disheartened. A few weeks a go I really got into Instagram and put loadssss of effort and time into creating content for it to only get 100 likes and reach less than a third of my followers, I thought it was just me but it turns out it was happening to everyone. Now, I just upload the content I love and exploring with my photography and how I want to progress, I have seem that this has had an impact on my traffic and my following has increased.

I have now ditched the amount of likes I receive on a post, maybe I get 200 likes: amazing but if I get 50, that’s also amazing. If you are in a grut with Instagram, just do your own thing and upload content that you love, don’t fixate yourself on the likes because it’s not good for your mental health!

How I stay motivated when it comes to Blogging:

Blogging is something that has been a passion of mine for a year now but it can become quite difficult when it comes to finding the motivation to sit down and write and create content. I think the one thing I find quite difficult is coming up with the idea’s and planning the content that I’m going to create.

One thing that sparked the whole idea of this post is because I recieved a message the other day saying that I was a hypocrite for saying that I was a Travel Blogger when I haven’t travelled??? (I may not have travelled to 100 places but does that mean I can’t post about my passion?). There was a part of me for a few hours that thought I was going to stop creating Travel content but then I thought why should I? Travelling is something I have a strong passion for and I don’t want to not write about it because one person says I shouldn’t? Now that it’s been a couple of days, I am really motivated to create Travel content so if you have any idea’s on what you’d like to see, please let me know in the comments!

How do I deal with being rejected by Brands?

Something that is part of the package of having a blog is reaching out to brands and seeking out sponsored posts. It can be quite difficult to be rejected by a brand that you’ve wanted to work with for the longest time. But now I have taught myself that this is a learning curve and I always ask the brands why they have rejected me and I just use this to change my blog up and up my game! I have been able to work with so many amazing brands and I can only hope that I get to work with so many other brands in the future!

So that is how I have been able to push back from caring about likes and traffic and continue to focus on the content I love and writing about my fashions! I hope this post can be found helpful to someone and it shows you that you don’t need to give up just because of the amount of likes you receive!

Thank you for reading!

  1. 🙂 It is nice to know that you are posting the content that you love and that you are not focused on “Likes”. As far as I am concerned, anyone can press the “Like” button without reading our blog posts; which more or less makes some of those “Likes” ingenuine.

In regards to being turned down by a brand, some of them would prefer to do business with bloggers with a large social media following.

Have fun with your blog and remain true to who you are and not others want you to be.

Do enjoy the rest of your week!

  2. I love this post. Totally agree that it can get disheartening sometimes, and it can be so hard not to focus on numbers, but I have found that when I’ve worried less about that, I have had more authentic engagement! It’s a very competitive world but as long as you’re still enjoying it then that’s what keeps you going! x

  3. I’ve gotta get in this mindset because I think it would make things a lot better and I might have more fun and less stress

  4. Great post! I have also taken that approach to Instagram, I really don’t want to let Instagram frustrate me anymore, I try and use it now as a fun tool to share whatever pictures I like and that I’m proud of, and whoever sees it or comments on it is an extra bonus! I would love to see some travel posts on what you pack in your carry on/suitcase, or what are your favourite travel ‘accessories’. I’m going on an overseas trip soon and I definitely need some packing help!

  5. Ah I relate to this post SO MUCH! I think posting what you want to post, writing what you want to write etc is just the biggest learning curve; when you post content you enjoy I think by default others enjoy it too! This made me feel a little better too becuase I often stress about how much I’m ‘progressing’ and there’s really no need to, I love blogging so much and I need to focus that I do it for me, not anyone else y’know?

  6. You’re definitely not alone in your thoughts and insecurities, but pay no mind to the person who told you that it’s not possible to be a travel blogger because you ‘haven’t travelled’. We only have 24 hours in a day after all, possibly jobs and responsibilities, so carry on doing what you can when you can, and prove them wrong!
