Nineteen Things I’ve Learnt in Nineteen Years

Today is actually my 20th Birthday, Happy birthday to me! Something about writing that makes me scared a little. Last year, I did the 18 things I’ve learnt in 18 years and I really enjoyed reflecting on my life lessons so I thought I’d do an updated one to celebrate my birthday! In the comments, let me know your most valuable life lesson because I’d love to know! Also make sure to give my blog a follow so that you don’t miss any content from me!

  1. Other peoples opinions on you are not a true representation of who you are. When I was in my early teens, I always used to take other peoples opinions on me to heart and I would overthink different aspects of myself, only recently have I learnt that these opinions aren’t always true and shouldn’t shield who I really am. What someone says about you is not a representation of who you really are.
  2. Things always get better. Being in a dark place doesn’t mean you are going to be in that dark place forever. Struggling with mental health won’t last forever and will get better!
  3. Taking time out for yourself is really important for self development. Spending an hour away from your phone and doing a really good skincare routine can do you the world of good.
  4. People cannot live your experiences for you. You want to travel? Do it. You want to get a first at university? You’ve got to work for it. Nothing get’s handed to you on a plate so pushing through and experiencing things for yourself will teach you so much.
  5. Drinking loads of water is really good for you, I’m talking to teenage me here who didn’t drink water ever but I now drink loads!
  6. If you have a dream, work for it and if you achieve it, never take it for granted. Travelling was a massive dream for me and only being 19, I have been able to visit 5 places and I can’t wait for the many more to come!
  7. Heartbreak doesn’t last forever. I’ve dealt with my fair share of heartbreak and would never know when it would end, it does end with time.
  8. When your Mom doesn’t like someone, they are more than likely right. I’ve had a fair share of friends that my mom hasn’t liked, but it always ends up that they f*ck me over so always listen to that advice as she’s genuinely lived most her life so listen!
  9. Life is to short. Is there a haircut you’ve wanted? get it. want some shoes? get them!
  10. Always be kind to others. Always think before you speak as you never know what is going on behind closed doors. Something you could say to another could destroy there confidence.
  11. Don’t let people make fun of the things you love. When I first told people about me starting a blog, I was judged quite a bit but it’s definitely something I love so I didn’t let it get to me!
  12. If you really want something, you have to work for it. When I first started my weight loss journey, I didn’t know if I’d ever lose weight but I worked really hard and was able to achieve it.
  13. Stress less. Stressing is not going to make anything better, it’s probably going to make it worse so when you are stressed, enter a positive frame of mind and push through it.
  14. Travel more. Travelling gives you so many lessons that you wouldn’t have, you get to learn about a new culture and you also learn so much about yourself that you wouldn’t have if you haven’t travelled.
  15. You should walk away and let go. Sometimes this is the best thing to do.
  16. Change isn’t always a bad thing. Changing your hair, changing the group of friends you hang round with or changing the school you’ve been to isn’t always such a bad thing.
  17. People come and go but life goes on. This was one of the hardest life lessons of them all.
  18. Step out of your comfort zone every once in a while. Whenever I step out of my comfort zone, I always find this is when I learn the most about myself.
  19. Always be yourself, no matter what. No matter the age I am, I am always going to be the same person and it is fun to be childish every once in a while.

And those are the 19 things I’ve learnt in 19 years, here’s to being 20 and having an amazing year! *clink clink*

  1. I love these sort of blog posts! Always good to look back on what you’ve learnt so far and what you hope to in the coming year. I need to do something like this as my birthday is coming up too.

  2. Haha the one about your mum never liking someone is so true. My mum always had something against one of my friends and it turned out she wasn’t the best of friends. That friend is no longer in my life and it’s less stressful now x
